The Walking Dead ceremony in Toraja

In Indonesia, there lived a thousand of tribes. But let me tell one of the most unique ceremony that I think is the most surprising yet interesting. It’s called the Walking Dead ceremony or in local language, it’s called “Mayat Berjalan”. From the name, you can tell that it is probably a hoax for most of the people because the dead can’t bring back alive. You’re wrong !

It’s a ceremony that used to raise the dead for whom they will walk from their grave to their former house.The Walking Dead is a unique ceremony yet terifying. It involve the corpse and the body relatives to accompany the walking corpse to their former house. Legend says that long time ago in Toraja, there aren’t any kind of transportation that can move the corpse easily. The terrain of toraja that consist of high terrain makes it difficult for carrying the corpse. So, they invent the Walking Dead ceremony. People of toraja known for their respect to the dead.

After the corpse reach their destination, the corpse then enter the house and became dead again. Their relatives then started to clean the body of the corpse and then they will buried the corpse with the new clothes that the corpse hase been given.

In Nowadays, it’s rare to see this unique ceremony again. Not all of the people toraja can execute this ceremony again. Only a few of them that is trusted from their elder can heir this knowledge.

God give us an amazing angel when we were still young. An angel that never complained what we did, who always love us no matter what, and always remembered us every time.

Who is this angel that god gave us ?

She is no more than our MOTHER.

Ever wonder what did you do to reward her kindness and her patience ? Love ? Respect ? Temper ? Affection ? Wealth ? Strength ? Or there are any other else that comes on your mind ?

When you were 1 years old, she fed and bathe you. In return, you cried all night long…

When you were 2 years old, she teach us how to walk. In return, you ran away from her…

When you were 3 years old, she cooked all of your favorite meals with all of her love. In return, you drop it into onto the floor…

When you were 4 years old, she gave you a drawing pen. In return, you scrawled the wall and all of her belongings…

When you were 5 years old, she bought you a fine dress. In return, you mess it with dirt and soil…

When you were 6 years old, she accompanied you to your first day of school. In return, you shout her ” I don’t want to go to school !!”

When you were 7 years old, she bought you a football. In return, you kicked it into the neighbor window…

When you were 8 years old, she bought you an ice cream. In return, you spill it into your entire shirt…

When you were 9 years old, she paid expensively for your piano course. In return, you always skipped the class and never trained…

When you were 10 years old, she accompanied you to the places you want to go. In return, you leave her without saying her goodbye…

When you were 11 years old, you took her with your friend to the Movies. In return, you ask her to sit in the other row…

When you were 12 years old, she prohibited you to saw an adult show. In return, you wait until she left home…

When you were 14 years old, she paid your summer camp for a whole month. In return, you never contact her until she pray hard for your safety….

When you were 15 years old, she want to hug you because working all day. In return, you locked up silently into your room…

When you were 16 years old, she teach you how to drive. In return, you drive the car selfishly without knowing her needs…

When you were 17 years old, she ask you kindly to stop the phone call because she needs it so bad. In return, you ignored her and continue your phone call….

When you were 18 years old, she cried with joy because of your graduation. In return, you’re partying with your friend until morning without her knowing…

When you were 19 years old, she paid your college and wants accompany you to your first day of college. In return, you asked her to get off the car because you don’t want to be ashamed by your friend…

When you were 20 years old, She asked ” Where have you been ?”. In return, you answer “What’s your problem ? It’s me that to know where am i going.”…

When you were 21 years old, she recommended your future career want to be. In return, you tell her “I don’t want to become mom”…

When you were 22 years old, she hugs you happily when you was graduated from college. In return, you ask her “What’s for holiday, mum ?”…

When you were 23 years old, She bought you a set of furniture for your new room. In return, you tell your friend how bad the furniture was…

When you were 24 years old, she met your fiancee and ask her about your future. In return, you complained “Mom, why do you ask about that such question ?”…

When you were 25 years old, she paid all of your wedding needs. In return, you move 500 km away from her…

When you were 30 years old, she advice you on how to take care of your baby. In return, you tell her “Mom, it’s different when you take care of me”…

When you were 35 years old, she ask you if you want to come by home. In return, you tell her “Mom, I don’t have time”…

When you were 40 years old, she suffer from a disease, and need your attention. In return, you ignored an choose to have holiday with your family…

And in one day, when she finally passed away with peacefully. Suddenly, you remembered all things that you have done to your mother, because they hit your heart like a sledgehammer…

None of the favor is worth of her sacrifice.

In fact, you even never remembered that almost all of your live has been greatly debt to your mother…

So, don’t ever forget to share your love to her.

Because one day, these love will never ever be the same.

“Because it’s there” – George Mallory

Those are the famous three words that George Mallory spoke when he was questioned why did he want to climb Mount Everest. Sadly, he died with all of his fellow partner while climbing what we called the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest.

While George Mallory died with all of his attempts, yet his famous three words carry out all of human curiosity of summit attempts. Summit attempts nowadays becomes of mountaineering obsession. They will not satisfy until they reach the highest. It becomes not just personal achievement, but also personal pride. They will not stop until they reach the summit, whatever the risk they take. It all started by a simple three words. “Because it’s there”.

One of the greatest challenge of all is summiting The Seven Summits of the world. The Seven Summits are the highest mountains of each of the seven continents. It was first Popularize by Richard Bass in the 1980s. He was the first person to summit all of the seven summits around the world.

These Seven Summits include :

Vinson Massif (4,892 metres) – Antartica

Denali (6,194 metres) – North America

Aconcagua (6,962 metres) – South America

Cartenz Pyramid (4,884 metres) – Oceania

Elbrus (5,642 metres) – Europe

Kilimanjaro (5,892 metres) – Africa

Everest (8,848 metres) – Asia

Vinson Massif (4,892 metres) – Antartica

Vinson Massif was first founded in 1958 by US Navy Aircraft. Named for Carl G Vinson, a Georgia congressman and a major force in 20th century US Antarctic exploration, it was first climbed in December 1966 by a combined group from the American Alpine Club and the National Science Foundation. Up til beginning of 2005 about 950 people have summited Mt Vinson.

Denali (6,194 metres) – North America

Once called Mount Mckinley, but then it changed to Denali by the The State of Alaska Board of Geographic Names to preserve its immemorial native name. Denali means “The High One” in the Native Americans. Denali holds the records of one of the coldest mountain in the world. In winter, it can reach about−59.7 °C. Even in summer, the temperature is still shockingly freezing reaching up to −30.5 °C.

Aconcagua (6,962 metres) – South America

Located in the Andes Mountain Range, Aconcagua is technically as an easy mountain if approached from the north, via the normal route. Despite of that, it is often underestimated which has resulted in serious injuries and death. The origins of the name “Aconcagua” is still a discused until now. But many belief that “Aconcagua” named comes from the language Aimara, in which the words “Acon” and “Cagua” would mean “Snowy Mount”. The youngest person to reach the summit of Aconcagua was Matthew Moniz of Boulder, Colorado. He was 11 years old when he reached the summit on December 16, 2008.

Cartenz Pyramid (4,884 metres) – Oceania

Located in Papua Province, Indonesia, Cartenz Pyramid is a steep granite wall with sharp good climbable rock. Only a few hundred people have climbed Carstensz due to the political instability and the fact that it is hidden in dense jungle. The names come from it’s discoverer, Jan Carstensz. Today, the uniquely glacier is threatened by the effect of global warming. Scientist predict that it’s completely gone in 4 or 5 years from now.

Elbrus (5,642 metres) – Europe

People may say the highest mountain in Europe is Mount Blanc, but it isn’t. It’s not even in the top 5 of Europe. Maybe it’s due to the popularity of Mount Blanc rather than Elbrus. Elbrus has two summits, the west summit is the highest: 5642m, the east summit is just a bit lower: 5621m. Elbrus is notorious for its brutal winter weather.

Kilimanjaro (5,892 metres) – Africa

Kilimanjaro is an extinct volcano, with 3 peaks: Kibo, Shira & Mawenzi. Kibo is the highest one (5895m) in the center. It is still unknown where the name Kilimanjaro originates. The mountain beauty stands from uniquely glacier that stands in the top of the mountain. But sadly, the glacier in Kilimanjaro has rapidly decrease in years since 1912. It has lost 85 % of the glacier. If this trends continues, there will be no more ice in 2022.

Everest (8,848 metres) – Asia

The summit of all summits, Mount Everest is the world’s highest mountain above the mean sea level at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). World will remembered when Everest was conquered by Tenzing – Hillary. The highest mountain in the world attracts many well-experienced mountaineers as well as novice climbers who are willing to pay substantial sums to professional mountain guides to complete a successful climb. It is so popular, that by the end of the 2008 climbing season, there had been 4,102 ascents to the summit by about 2,700 individuals.

Text While Driving

So many people knows about how to drive safely, but usually, they didn’t obey the rules. One of the rules that people often to break is text while driving.

Many reports and statistics do show that text while driving is way more dangerous while driving than making or answering a phone call.

Statistics show that in 2009, 5,474 people were killed in the U.S. because of accidents that involved distracted driving. Another 448,000 were injured. From that 5,474 deaths, Text while driving contributes about 995 deaths. That’s about 20 percent from the 5,474 deaths. Regarding these factors, the number is high. More disturbingly, the 30- to 39-year-old age group had the highest percentage of cell phone use in fatal crashes. We know that they like to bring their family or children with them.

What are the tips to don’t text and drive ? Simple, you can shut down the phone while driving. But many people consider this solution is a bit loss to them. We know the demand of information and communication is high in this era, so many people like to always turn their phone on because they don’t want to miss any call or text from their important person or they don’t want to miss the consequential news or information out there. But don’t worry. Here is a useful tips that i found in a forum.

1) phones should have driving mode profile besides the silent and offline modes (airplane mode) and all the others.

2) Driving mode profile will be activated manually then when the phone speed is X KPH or above (X could be user defined like 20 KPH or 30 KPH, and the speed is taken from the GPS signal or based on cell tower positioning methods)

3) Driving modes features the following:
a. the person name who’s trying to contact us through email, SMS or a call will be read out loudly.
b. in case of SMS the content will be read also. (already implemented in our nokias long time back)
c. reply to sms through voice commands.
d. in case that the speed is less than X, the phone will switch back to the preset mode.

Or, pull off the road safely and stop.

We know you don’t want to end up like this don’t you ?

So, never to text and drive while in road. Be safe and obey all rules in the street.

The Zodiac Killer

People claimed it as the most notorious serial killer in America. Millions of people, thousands of police, hundreds of detective, yet even the FBI doesn’t know who is the real identity of the Zodiac Killer. The victims of the Zodiac Killer is mostly a young teen, aged from 17 to 20 years old. Although the Zodiac Killer confirm 37 kills, but investigators only confirm 7 victims, 3 were survived.

The case started in 1968 on Lake Herman Road. Two high school student were on their first date. The couple planned to attend a Christmas concert at Hogan High about three blocks from Jensen’s home. The couple, instead, visited a friend before stopping at a local restaurant, and then driving out on Lake Herman Road. At about 10:15 p.m., the couple parked his mother’s Rambler in a gravel turnout, which was a well-known lovers’ lane. But their first date changed to become their worst nightmare. A moments after that, a mysterious car parked behind the couple. The driver then rush to the couple and shot cold them with a 22 caliber pistol. When the police arrived, there were no traces about the killer. No fingerprint, no tracks, just two dead body that was shot by the killer.

The Lake Herman Road murder then triggered a next serial numbers of murders by the Zodiac Killer. By 1970, a letter were sent to the local police department. It was written by the Zodiac Killer. It contain the credits for all of his murders and a 408-symbol cryptogram. Soon, the police cracked the cryptogram to be the Zodiac Killer motives.It says that the Zodiac Killer purpose of the killing is a personal satisfaction. He believes that killing is a dangerous game to play with. In the end of the letter, there was a cross circle, the famous signature from the Zodiac Killer.

Still, the Zodiac Killer identity never revealed. Many were suspected, but never match. Even the FBI were on this case, but were never solved the case. The Zodiac Killer will remain as The Most Elusive and Notorious Killer in the America.

Supermoon is a full or new moon that coincides with a close approach by the Moon to the Earth – Wikipedia.org

In a simple word, supermoon is an event that made the moon looks bigger. Supermoon caused by the distance between moon and earth at it’s closest. The average distance of the moon from the earth is 384.403 km. While in supermoon, the distance is more shorter, about 356,400 km. It caused the moon looks bigger 14 percent bigger, and 30 percent brighter than normal. The impact of a supermoon can make the tide more powerful, yet the force it still to weak to reach threaten position.

The last supermoon occurred recently on 19 March 2011. Unfortunately, i waited for this event occurred on my homeland, but never happened because of the cloudy weather which is hard to see the moon. I was disappointed thou because i have to wait next 18 years to see this event happening.

Earth Hour at Worldwide

On 26 March 2011, an annual program that was founded by the WWF in Australia on 2007 were held. It was called “Earth Hour”. Earth Hour is an event that call all our earth to switch off our light only for an hour, at 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM local time. It seems simple, but the impact is huge. In these modern day, our earth is facing a crisis. Crisis that made our live became uncomfortable, more dangerously unsafe.

We know the global impact of global warming, we know the impact of illegal logging, we know the impact of resource’s abuse, yet do we do thing’s that made our earth become better ? Earth Hour is just the beginning. I hope the impact of Earth Hour will realize all people to become more energy efficient. The impact is just not for earth, but our future.
